Beautiful maple leaves in green and gold spotted with morning dew formed by mother of pearl decorate the pastel colors on this Natsume Tea Caddy by Yoshita Kasho enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The approach is unique, the gray and cream-colored surface is performed with colored Urushinoko, or powdered lacquer sprinkled over wet lacquer, creating a matte texture and finish which perfectly sets off the striking golden autumn leaves. It is 6.7 cm (2-3/4 inches) tall, roughly the same diameter and is in excellent condition.
Yoshita Kasho was born the first son of Maki-e Artist Yoshita Eisaku in 1940, and has exhibited and been awarded at any number of important contemporary craft and lacquer exhibitions.
