A set of three outlandish bowls by modern master Ichikawa Toru enclosed in the original compartmentalized signed wooden box titled Furyu (literally a current of wind, but in Japanese it means elegance, refinement, poetic taste). The crawling pale glaze is supplanted with curtains of green ash glaze and features studs and eruptions of vivid gold. One features a large char of silver on the side, another a golden flower inside, and the third enigmatic calligraphic script reading like some ancient Haiku. The Kutsugata (odd shaped) bowls are roughly 13 x 11 x 6.5 cm (5-1/4 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches) each and are in perfect condition.
Ichikawa Toru was born in Tokyo in 1973. In 2015 he established his current studio in Bizen after 4 years of apprenticeship under another Bizen Outsider, Kakurezaki Ryuichi. He has since developed quite a following, with his shows selling out often within hours.
