A set of ten austere black lidded soup bowls which open to reveal the silhouettes of blossoming plum against a glimmering gold background. Dating from the later 19th to opening of the 20th century, they come in an age darkened wooden box upon which is written a reference to them having been made in the famous lacquer producing regions of Wajima in the Noto area near Kanazawa. They are overall in excellent condition.
