I have never seen one of these before, a “Rosen” used for fanning the coals during preparation of Sench tea made from a natural mushroom inserted with a wooden handle and carved with a poetic inscription dated early summer of 1906. The inscription appears to be “Sitting in contemplation, preparing Tea”. The mushroom surface is au-natural, only the inclusion of the inscription and addition of a handle deviating from it as simply a growth on a tree. It is 12 x 47 cm (5 x 19 inches). There appears to be a dark repair across the center, as if it were once broken or a crack was filled.
