A pair of fabulous hand cast iron kettles with worked brass handle and chrysanthemum shaped lids enclosed in the original wooden box dated the 7th day of the 11th month of 1760. The long spout open at the top indicates this is a pair of Choshi made for serving hot sake. They are cast with Shippo-moyo or 7 treasures (cloisonne) patterns on the shoulder. The lid is aka-do (red bronze) with dark bronze top made of ordinary bronze, with silver and brass fittings. Each pot is 16 x 23 x 15 cm (6-1/2 x 9 x 6 inches) and both are in excellent condition.
