A Meiji period yosegi carving forming a lamp-shade lined with gold in the shape of two dragons in a swirling tempest over crashing waves vying for a burning jewel. A very unique piece, it is 34 cm (15-1/2 inches) diameter, 22 cm (8-1/2 inches) tall and in overall fine condition. Yosegi is a technique where multiple blocks of wood are glued together and carved, to prevent cracking and splitting associated with regular carving.
