A huge painting of carp frolicking in the waves dating from the Edo period signed the 61 year old Tamaoka. Ink, light color and gofun on paper, it has been completely restored in patterned blue silk with massive wood rollers. The scroll is 129.5 x 216 cm (51 x 85 inches) and is in excellent condition. Little is known of the life of 19th century painter Mori Gyokko, he was included in the list Kokon Maika (Painters of Old and New) published in 1881. The scroll comes in a fine modern Kiri-wood box.
