An exquisite moder lacquered Koro incense burner with silver lid by enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bodaiju Makie Koro. Silver leaves circle the rim, under which dangle golden flowers attracting butterflies in gold and white (egg shell) over a ground intimated by fine mother of pearl flakes in togidashi maki-e. It is 9 x 9 x 11.5 cm (3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.

Onihira Keiji was born in Wajima city, home of one of Japan’s most revered lacquer traditions, in 1973, apprenticed under Kumano Sadahisa in Maki-e in 1991. He graduated the Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima Lacquer Research Facility in 1998.  1998 to 1999 worked on restoration of National Treasures in the preservation department at the Tokyo National Museum. 2000 National Traditional Lacquer Exhibition (Nihon Dento Shitsugeiten) as well as the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Crafts Exhibition. In 2004 he was awarded at the Nihon Dento Shitsugeiten and two years later at the Ishikawa Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
