An expertly crafted Chawan covered in qhite glaze overwhich is applied deeply fissured craling black by Seki Moritaka enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kuro Oribe Chawan. It is 12.5 x 11 x 8.5 cm (5 x 4-1/4 x 3-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Seki Moritaka was born in 1967 and studied Bizen ware under Yamamoto Takeichi. This ceramic artist fascinated by Momoyama pottery established a dynamic style full of enthusiasm which goes well beyond the idea of reproduction. He has chosen Shino and Seto-guro as his forte, and clearly focused, does these both incredibly well. He focuses on a small production of extremely fine wares for a few private exhibitions held annually.
