A magnificent set of 4 stacking lacquer boxes with matching lid lavishly decorated with gold and silver designs over a nashiji ground. On the lid the full moon rises as a silver disc over a forest glistening with flowers in precious metals. Tier 1 features the fallen blossoms floating in silver ripples. On the second various butterflies float effortlessly over a meandering stream studded with water plants. Tier three depicts the autumnal opposite of fallen maple leaves being carried away on the swirling eddies. While the slightly larger bottom tier features cranes, geese and ducks along the watrs edge bordered by rush and winter grasses. Inside all is a festive red. The set is in overall excellent condition, measuring 16.5 x 17.8 x 21.3 cm (6-1/2 x 7 x 8-1/2 inches) assembled, dating from the Edo period, 18th –19th century.
