An absolute masterpiece tray in gold on black lacquer depicting a bird perched on the bamboo trellis supporting blossoming chrysanthemum looking up at a passing friend, the takamaki-e and hiramaki-e scene replete with powdered and inlayed gold with textured gold nuggets inlayed about the rim on a black lacquer stand with foliate design matching the outside of the tray. This is absolutely top quality maki-e. The tray and presentation stand together are 30 x 23 x 12 cm (12 x 9 x 5 inches) and are in excellent condition.
