An absolutely breathtaking set of simple ash covered bowls from the turn of the 19th century kilns of Tokoname, the raw earth covered in varying firing effects and blasted with flying ash. They are, unlike the bulk of Tokoname ware, very thinly potted, the rims curling elegantly inward from beneath. To be perfectly honest, one of my favorite finds this year, very unusual. The bowls are 11.5 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter, 4.5 cm (just less than 2 inches) tall and in excellent condition, enclosed in a period wooden box titled Tokoname Katakuchi Kozara, Gokyaku.
