A stunning pair of bowls showcasing various lacquer techniques enclosed in a period kiri-wood box dating from the early 20th century. The outside of the bowls shows off the woodworkers turning, with a ribbed surface in transparent candy lacquer allowing the beauty of the wood-grain to be appreciated. About the rim and base are Hagi leaves in gold on black, symbol of autumn. Within a stream meanders through the reflection of the moon in togidashi maki-e of silver and gold. All together a stunning set of bowls. They are 14.5 cm (just less than 6 inches) diameter, 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
