A beautiful dry lacquer box by Tsukiji Hisaya exhibited at the 67th Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Craft Exhibtion in 2020 enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kanshitsu Futamono Futahira. It is 27 x 18 x 16 cm (11 x 7-1/4 x 6-1/4 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Hisaya Tsukiji was born in Tokyo in 1957. He graduated from the Department of Crafts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1980 and completed his graduate studies in lacquer art at the same university in 1982. He is currently a full member of the Japan Kōgeikai (Japan Traditional Art Crafts Association) and a part-time lecturer at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. Based in Kanagawa Prefecture, he actively engages in creative work. His major awards include the Kawatoku Prize at the 58th Eastern Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition (2018), the Kumamoto Traditional Crafts Center Prize at the 37th Japan Traditional Lacquerware Exhibition (2020), and the Japan Kōgeikai Eastern Japan Branch Director’s Prize at the 63rd Eastern Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition (2023), among many others.
