A black lacquer set of five stacking boxes with lid decorated with flowering fronds in mother of pearl inlay and powdered gold maki-e dating form the 18th to early 19th century enclosed in a period lacquered wooden storage box. Together the five boxes are 19 x 21 x 23 cm (7-1/2 x 8-1/2 x 9 inches). Overall it is in fine condition, with minor chips and blemishes consistent with the age.
