A beautiful black lacquered box covered in intricate lustrous patterns of Mother of Pearl inlay dating from the Edo period enclosed in an age darkened custom made wooden box. It is supported on four small bun feet with densely packed shell flakes embedded in the bottom. There is a crack in the bottom of the tray which testifies to the age, otherwise is in decidedly fine condition. The box is 22 x 22 x 7 cm (8-3/4 x 8-3/4 x 3 inches).
