A creaturesque glass object straight out of Bio-fiction by female glass artist Koyama Atsuko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A plum colored nebula splaying out to an organic orb, beginning to stretch as if one were about to view cellular division in some anamorphic form floating in the cosmic drift. Suspended between the cellular and the celestial, this bioluminescent form glows with quiet intensity. Delicate nodules cluster like deep-sea spores or microscopic stars, encased in a fluid, teardrop-like vessel. Koyama’s work invites us to peer inward—into glass as both medium and metaphor—for the elusive, living forces that shape us from within.According to the artist: In molten glass, I sense a mysterious vitality—something akin to the hidden life of a microscopic world. Though this same life force resides within my own body, it remains, to me, elusive and unknowable—yet beautiful precisely because of its mystery. As I work with glass, I carry this feeling with me, using the medium as a way to confront and engage with that which is ungovernable within myself. The object is 9.5 x 7.5 x 8 cm (roughly 4 x 3 x 3-1/4 inches) and is in perfect condition, directly from the artist.

Atsuko Koyama, born in 1991 in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, is a contemporary Japanese glass artist whose work captures the ephemeral lyricism of form and light. She graduated in 2014 from the Department of Contemporary Arts and Culture at Aichi University of Education, where she also completed a postgraduate research program the following year. From 2015 to 2020, she served as a dedicated instructor at the Glassblowing Studio of the Shin Zokei Creation Center in Iwata City, honing her craft through both teaching and creation. In 2017, she further expanded her horizons by studying at the renowned Pilchuck Glass School in the United States. In 2020 she was accepted into the elite Udatsuyama Art Studio in Kanazawa. Koyama’s exhibition history reflects a quiet but steady unfolding of vision, beginning with her participation in the alternative graduation exhibition Another Graduation Show in 2015, and continuing through numerous solo and group shows across Japan. Notable solo exhibitions include her 2016 debut in Iwata and her 2019 show The Resonance of Glass from Aichi to All Japan at Daiichi Art Museum in Nagoya. Whether in thematic explorations like The Shape of Evening or playful configurations such as Circle, Triangle, Square: A Three-Artist Glass Exhibition, Koyama’s practice invites viewers into a tactile and contemplative dialogue with glass, its memory, and its mutability.
