Wave-like patterns in eggshell and colored lacquer ripple on the black surface of this gold lined moon-shaped hanging vase in the dry lacquer technique by Yamada Yutaka (Rakuzen) enclosed in the original signed wooden box with the original custom-made hanging device.  It is 45 cm (18 inches) diameter, 10 cm (4 inches) thick at the deepest and is in overall excellent condition.

Yamada Yutaka (Rakuzen II) was born in 1915 and entered the lacquer department of the Kyoto Industrial Art School (Kyoto Shiritsu Bijutsu Kogei Gakko) in 1930, then studied dry lacquer technique under his father the first generation Rakuzen.  He succeeded the family name in 1950, currently in the third generation.
