A fabulous large basin, the gleaming black surface inlayed with streaks of colorful and iridescent mother of pearl by Matsuzaki Shinpei exhibited at the 35th National Traditional Lacquer Exhibition enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kanshitsu Raden Bachi Setsuna. It is 45 x 28 x 23 cm 18 x 11 x 9 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Matsuzaki Shinpei (B. 1981) graduated with an Masters of Fine Arts from the Lacquer department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. He has exhibited with and been awarded at the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dento Kogei Ten) as well as the National Traditional Lacquer Exhibition among others. He currently lives in Okinawa, and divides his time between production and teaching at the Prefectural Art University.
