A beautiful white porcelain box by female artist Tanzawa Yuko dating from 2004 enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sakura-mon Tobako. It is 22 cm (roughly 9 inches) diameter, 14.5 cm (5-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition. About her work she says In my style of expression I use a variety of different flowers as motifs on a white base. I apply traditional overglaze painting techniques, but aim at a contemporary impression.
Tanzawa Yuko was born in Tokyo in 1961 and entered the Department of Crafts at the Tokyo University of Arts where she studied under Living national treasures Fujimoto Yoshimichi, Tamura Koichi, as well as avant-garde Asano Yo. In 1987 she completed her Master’s Degree in Ceramics at the Graduate School of Fine Arts and was selected for the National New Traditional Crafts Exhibition that same year. In 1997 she was first selected for exhibition at the National Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition.
