A superb sky blue Sencha Tea Pot by Yamada Sou enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ao-Kyusu. It is 11.5 x 11 x 8 cm (4-3/4 x 4-1/2 x 3-1/4 inches) and is in excellent condition. Born into one of Tokoname’s foremost families of teapot makers, Yamada Sō has inherited the traditional techniques passed down through the Jōzan lineage. Building upon this rich heritage, he incorporates contemporary design sensibilities and innovative ideas, creating works of exceptional refinement and appeal. The result is a body of tea-ware distinguished by its high level of craftsmanship, functionality, and aesthetic sophistication. His series of blue works is particularly sought.
Yamada Jozan (1868-1942) founded the Yamada lineage after studying under Ina Sosuke, creating a name in Tokoname for high quality tea wares. Jozan III (Minoru, 1924-2005) won Grand Prix at the Brussels World Exposition in 1958. He took the name Jozan III in 1961 and was designated a Living National Treasure in 1998. Yamada Sou was born in 1979, and Graduated from Tokoname Ceramic Art Institute in 2002 after which he spendt several years in Tajimi city workng at Studio Mavo. He returned to Tokoname to study under his grandfather and father in 2004, becoming the last disciple of Jozan III. He held his first Solo Exhibition in 2005, with subsequent exhibitions throughout Japan including the famous Kurodatoen in Ginza and being featured on the National Television (NHK) Utsuwa Yumekobo program.
