A circular writing box in matte gray textured finish mimicking a discarded ornamental roof tile enclosed in a wooden box dating from the early 20th century. The two halves are divided by a solid silver rim. Inside the lid is a signature in gold which appears to read Shichikurin, housed within are the original gourd shaped Suzuri ink stone lacquered black with a gold rim, and a silver suiteki water dropper inset into a lacquered insert decorated with bamboo grass in gold and silver. The work is 24 cm (9-1/2 inches) diameter and is in fine condition. It comes enclosed in the original wooden storage box bearing a red seal. The worn paper label on the box appears to be dated the fifth month of Showa 2 (1927).
