Here a figure in the guise of Bishamonten (the god of fortune in war and battles) standing on a demon holding his customary stupa and spear with a heavily bearded face and countenance much more akin to that of Shoki the Demon Queller with bulging Zogei eyes signed on back Suiko Saku. Bishamonten, sculpted as a ferocious armed warrior, is one of the Four Heavenly Kings, Buddhist gods who watch over the four cardinal directions. He is on an elaborate stand dated on back in gold 1936 and signed Nanpodo Suiko Saku. The entire is 56 cm (22 inches) tall, the base is 25 x 15 cm (8 x 6 inches) and all is in excellent condition. The figure comes enclosed in a period wooden storage box.
