A Seto Tenmoku Tea bowl dating from the early Edo period accompanied by a lacquered Tenmoku dai tea bowl stand from roughly the same era, both housed in wooden boxes. The stand is lacquered red inside, with a mottle surface of black and silver over byakudan (gold foil covered with transparent red lacquer). The Bowl itself is small with a striking gold repair to a kiln flaw in the form of golden wave patterns. The bowl comes with a cotton buffer nad silk pouch, housed in a wooden box with four silk buffers. The Wooden box is a work of art in itself. All four sides and the lid are slightly convex, aged to a mellow caramel color with care and handling. The title of Ki Tenmoku (Yellow Tenmoku) is written on the lid in gold lacquer, and it comes in a secondary outer protective wooden box. The Chawan is 10.5 cm (just over 4 inches) diameter, 7 cm (just less than 3 inches) tall. There is an old but stable crack in the rim. The stand is 16.5 cm (6-1/2 inches) diameter, 10 cm (4 inches) tall. There is an old crack in the side.
