A deformed piece of bamboo stained with years of soot accumulation which has been polished away, leaving a dark patina. Closed on both ends, it has been expertly cut with two characters incised into the somewhat flattened end which appear to be archaic forms of Raku-sai (Easy or Happy Years). It is 42.5 cm (17 inches) long and in excellent condition.
