An exquisite incense burner of hand formed copper-bronze textured like ripples in red finish etched with floating leaves capped with a solid silver lid pierced with eddies upon which a fully 3-dimensional frog serves as the handle. It comes enclosed in an age darkened signed wooden box titled Fukiyose Koro. In Japanese decorative arts, Fukiyose refers to a design motif in which various leaves, grasses, flowers, or other natural elements appear to have been blown together by the wind and collected in one place. The motif became popular in lacquer, ceramics, textiles, metalwork, and tea utensils. This piece is 11.5 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter, 8 cm (3-1/4 inches) tall and is in perfect condition. It is signed on the base, and the box bears the same signature, which appears to read Seiko/Shoko. The lid is 84 grams of pure silver.
