A dragonfly with wings of iridescent mother of pearl, a body of white Shell and a head of red coral alights onto a basket filled with golden fruit on the black lacquered surface of this lacquered box dating from the first half of the 20th century. Inside is Nashiji lacquer with frond decoration and contains an ink stone and silver water dropper in the tray insert. It comes in the original age darkened wooden box titled Budo Maki-e Suzuri Bako. It measures 22.5 x 25.5 x 6 cm (9 x 10 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in overall fine condition, with some minor scratches on the bottom typical of use.
