One of the 12 Guardian Kings (Heavenly Generals, Junishizo or Junishinsho) of Buddhism strikes a powerful pose, hair flaring back like fire with a confident, bring it on expression on his face.This rustic carving dates from the mid Edo period, and is likely an image of Basara, borrowing some traits from traditional images of Bishamonten.It is 42 cm (17 inches) tall including the base, which is 12.5 x 26 cm.The image himself is 37 cm (15 inches) tall.He is missing a few finger tips on the left hand, and both heavily armored shoulders have been re-attached over time.
