A peaked iron votive candle stand for offering candles in a shrine or temple dating from the later Edo period, 18th to 19th century. It is 31 x 19 x 26 cm (12-1/4 x 7-3/4 x 10-1/4 inches) and is in excellent condition. The shape is likely to represent a Hoju, or burning Jewel representing wisdom, one of the sacred images common in Japanese religious iconography.
