A frightening apparition rises from the dried autumn grass surrounded by tendrils of flame known as “rin” in this anonymous Meiji period painting mounted as a scroll. Ink on paper freshly cleaned and mounted in a simple beige border retaining the original dark wood rollers. The scroll is 43.5 x 174 cm and is in excellent condition enclosed in an older kiri-wood collector’s box.
