A fabulous set of 10 Edo period lacquer bowls with a wiped-on lacquer finish accentuating the wood grain outside and decorated inside with intricate scenes in togidashi maki-e on black mellowed with age to a deep chocolate color. They come enclosed in a red lacquered kiri-wood storage box. Each is 13 cm (over 5 inches) diameter, 6 cm (2-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition. A superb example of Edo period artistry and a great way to add visual flavor to your Japanese meal.
