An organic Sake set in soft white porcelain clay by Baba Rintaro consisting of a sake cup and Katakuchi pouring vessel enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Shuki “Ko”. The title describes the appearance of moonlight shining with a clear, white brightness; by extension, something that is pure, luminous, and immaculate in its whiteness. The Katakuchi is 16.5 x 12 x 7.5 cm (6-1/2 x 5 x 3 inches) while the Guinomi is 9.5 x 7 x 4 cm (3-3/4 x 2-7/8 x 1-1/2 inches) and both are in perfect condition, directly from the artist this year. A set of vases by the artist from this same “Ko” series was awarded at the Arita International Ceramics Competition in April of this year (2026).
Baba Rintaro was born into a ceramics family in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture in 1999, The artist graduated from the Ceramic Department of the Arita Technical High School in Saga Prefecture in 2018. In 2022, completed studies in Ceramic Design at the Faculty of Arts of Kyushu Sangyo University, followed by the Design Course at the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center in 2024 and the Ceramics Laboratory program in 2025. Working primarily in porcelain, the artist seeks to create sharp, dignified white wares that incorporate subtle fluctuations and irregularities. Through this balance of precision and gentle variation, the work explores a refined and quietly expressive vision of contemporary porcelain.
