A dramatic crash of ink by Yanagi Morimasa dating from the mid to late 1960s. Ink on paper mounted in patterned green silk, the scroll measures 81.5 x 210 cm (32 x 82 5/8 inches) and is in overall fine condition, with some insect residue on the bottom roller. Little is known of Yanagi Morimasa (born 1902), yet five works in this style from 1967 and 1968 are held in the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art as well as work in the Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Art. I have been trying to acquire a rare book published in 1966 of his work but have been unable to sequester a copy.
