This is really something to see, a striking heavy form of gyrating coils by Konishi Tozo enclosed in the original singed wooden box. It is 36.5 cm (14-1/2 inches) tall, slightly oblong it is roughly the same diameter.

The Toko pottery maintains the traditional firing method of Bizen ware using red pine. The kiln was founded by Konishi Toichiro (Toko I) who was the grandson of early Meiji Master Craftsman Nagami Toraku, The first generation perfected the Sangiri technique, which had previously been created by chance. The kiln passed to his daughter Mitsue (Konishi Toko II, b. 1928) in the 1950s. Konishi Tozo, the grandson of the founder, is certified as a holder of an intangible cultural property designated by Bizen City. Tozo was born in 1947. He first submitted to the 18th National Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dento Kogeiten) in 1971 where he has been awarded. In 1973 he was accepted into the Chunichi Kokusai Togeiten International Ceramics Exhibition where he has been awarded, and in 1975 was awarded at the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition. He received the Kaneshige Toyo prize in 1988. His work was selected for the 1997 exhibition 1000 years of Bizen at the National Ceramic Museum in France, and in 2003 was awarded the order of Cultural Merit From Okayama Prefecture.
