Yamamoto Noriyuki was born in Tottori in 1948, and at the age of 16 met the head of the Toyama Mingei Museum Yoshida Shoya. Two years later he was lucky enough to meet Bernard Leach on one of his frequent trips to Japan, and from that fateful moment set his sites down the path of the potter, and so at the age of 18 apprenticed in Shimane prefecture at the Shussai-gama Kiln. Four years later he established his own pottery studio. His career took wings around 1980, with an ever increasing series of Solo exhibitions throughout the Japanese Archipeligo.
