An outstanding censer in aka-e by Komekyu Kazuhiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Aka-e Fushamon Koro (Censer with red windmill designs). It is 11.5 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter, 12.5 cm (5 inches) tall and in perfect condition.
Komekyu Kazuhiko was born in Nomi, Ishikawa Prefecture, in 1968. He graduated from Kanazawa College of Art in 1990, where he studied oil painting in the Department of Fine Art, before turning his attention to ceramics and completing the advanced course at the Ishikawa Prefectural Institute for Kutani Pottery in 1992. In 1996 he established his own studio, Komekyu-gama, and from 2001 began holding solo exhibitions throughout Japan. His work has since been featured in a number of prominent exhibitions and cultural events, including the Autumn Banquet (Aki no Utage), an exhibition pairing flowers and vessels at the Westin Tokyo in 2010, and The Art of Kutani at The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo in 2013. In 2020, marking thirty years devoted to ceramics, Yonehisa presented a commemorative exhibition in the Sanno Suite of The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. Drawing upon his early training as a painter and the rich ceramic traditions of his native Ishikawa, Yonehisa continues to work actively from his studio, bringing a distinctly painterly sensibility to the contemporary language of Kutani ware.
