A small box covered in Ro-iro black with togidashi maki-e design of plovers soaring before the golden orb of the sun rising over tempestuous seas. Around the sides maple leaves float on swirling golden eddies. It features a solid silver rim separating lid and base, and cones enclosed in the original Meiji p. red lacquered wooden storage box wrapped in blue cloth. The box is 14 x 10.5 x 6 cm (5-1/2 x 4 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in overall excellent condition, with wear on the bottom typical of age and use.
