A striking work of colored clay by Nishimura Shun exhibited at the 30th Nihon Kogei Kai Shinsaku Togeiten (National New Ceramic Art Works Exhibition) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Senmon Zogan Kasai Tsubo. It is 29 cm (11-1/2 inches) diameter, 23 cm (9 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Born in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, in 1957, Nishimura Toshihiko began his ceramic training at the Tsukamoto Pottery Research Institute in Mashiko after leaving Teikyo University in 1978. He established his independent studio in 1983 and has since exhibited widely, earning selections for the Traditional Art Crafts New Works Exhibition, the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition. In 1999, he received the Semi-Mainichi Grand Prize at the North Kantō Ceramic Art Exhibition and was invited to exhibit at the same exhibition in 2001. A member of the Japan Kōgei Association, Nishimura has held numerous solo exhibitions at leading galleries throughout Japan.
