A perfect example of Hidasuki lines run haphazardly across the squat form of this Bizen bottle vase by Shibaoka Koichi exhibited at the 24th Nihon Kogei Kai Shinsaku Togeiten (National New Ceramic Art Works Exhibition) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hidasuki Shirihari Tokkuri. It is 24 cm (9-1/2 inches) diameter, 33 cm (13 inches) tall and in perfect condition.
Shibaoka Koichi was born in Bizen City in 1941. After graduating from the Bizen Ceramics Center, he studied under the brothers Isezaki Mitsuru and his brother future Living National Treasure Isezaki Jun. In 1971 he became independent and built his own kiln. Winner of numerous awards including at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. He was designated an Intangible Cultural Property of Bizen City.
