A slice of flattened bamboo lacquered brown and decorated with soaring birds in gold maki-e dating from the early 20th century. Is it truly bamboo, or wood carved to look like it? Without cutting it open one will never know. An elegant design, it is 12.2 x 10 x 6.5 cm (5 x 4 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in overall fine condition.
