A powerful work of torn porcelain by contemporary female artist Tokumaru Kyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Kaen-mon Wan. It is 26 cm (over 10 inches) diameter, 23 cm (9 inches) tall and in excellent condition, directly from the artist this summer.
Tokumaru Kyoko was born in Tokyo in 1963, and graduated the prestigious Tama Geijutsu Art University in 1992. Even prior to graduation whe was already garnering award, receiving the Chozo grant in 1991, and being selected for exhibition at the Shiga prefectural Togei No Mori Ceramics Museum. In 1992 her work was featured in the Sogetsu Museum exhibition Ima Oribe, Basara no Renchu. Since 1996 she has been a guest lecturer or or guest artist in 12 museums, studios and Universities including a year in Arizona State University in 2003. Her work is held in the collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, New Taipei City Yinggei Ceramics Museum in Taiwan, Guimet Museum in France, Gifu Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, Yamanashi Prefectural Museum and Oita Prefectural Museum among others.
