A large exhibited porcelain box by Hayashi Toshio enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Senkokumon Dai-Kogo exhibited and awarded at the 13th National Traditional New Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dento Kogei Shinsaku-ten).  It is published and was awarded the Nihon Kogei-Kai-sho (top prize) as noted in the catalog (a copy is included).   The work is 25 cm (10 inches) diameter, 13.5 cm (5-1/2 inches) tall and is in excellent condition. 

Hayashi Toshio is an artist known for his polychrome porcelain (saiji) whose works are distinguished by their refined elegance. Toshio was born in downtown Tokyo in 1933, and graduated the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 1956. HE subsequently studied under three of the best, Itaya Hazan, Miyanohara Ken, and Katō Hajime. He exhibited with the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Traditional Crafts New Works Exhibition (receiving the top prize twice), as well as the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition.
