An exceptional painting by Yukimatsu Shunpo, a sister to a work exhibited at the 8th Nihon Nanga-in Ten National Exhibition by the artist in 1929. Ink and light color on silk in a fine mounting terminating with solid ivory rollers (these will be changed for export). It comes in the original signed box enclosed in a protective Niju-bako lacquered outer wood box.
Yukimatsu Shunpo (1897-1962) was born in Oita Prefecture, on the southern Island of Kyushu, a locale with a deep history of Nanga painting. He initially studied under Sakuma Chikuho before coming to Osaka in 1915 where he took up residence under Himejima Chikugai. He was first accepted into the Teiten in 1920, where he would later be recognized and awarded several times and received grand prize in 1926 and 1927. Held in the collections of The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the Oita City Museum among others.
