Takatsu Mio 髙津 未央

Takatsu Mio (b. 1976) was raised in Gifu Prefecture, surrounded from an early age by the historic kilns and ceramic culture of the Mino region. She studied sculpture at Osaka University of Arts, graduating in 1999, and completed advanced studies there in 2001. Although trained as a sculptor, her background in Mino’s ceramic environment strongly shaped her later engagement with clay as a three-dimensional, expressive medium.

Her first works were exhibited in 1999, followed by exhibitions in Tokyo in 2001. In 2002 she was selected for the 6th International Ceramics Exhibition Mino, marking an important early milestone, and over the following years she held a series of private exhibitions at prominent venues throughout Japan. In 2005 she made her first overseas debut, beginning a gradual expansion of her international presence.

Takatsu’s work was featured in Women Ceramic Artists in the 21st Century at the Paramita Museum in 2009, highlighting her position within a new generation of female ceramic artists. In 2011 her work was accepted into both the Faenza International Ceramics Exhibition in Italy and the Nihon Tōgeiten (National Ceramics Exhibition) in Japan. Through a practice informed by sculpture and ceramics alike, she continues to explore form, volume, and material presence with a quiet but assertive individuality.
