Sugitani Keizo 杉谷 恵造

Sugitani Keizo (b. 1959) was born in Osaka and graduated from the Ceramic Art Institute of the Tekisui Museum of Art in 1982. After completing his formal training, he embarked on a dynamic and exploratory career in contemporary ceramics, developing a distinctive visual language that blends traditional technique with a bold, expressive approach to surface and form.

Sugitani has been selected for and awarded in a number of major group exhibitions, including the International Ceramics Competition Mino and the Asahi Art Exhibition, where his work has received significant recognition for its originality. His ceramics have been exhibited extensively throughout Japan and internationally, with solo and group presentations in major art centers such as London, Art Miami, TEFAF Maastricht, New York, Taipei, and Shanghai, among others.

Sugitani’s practice reflects a keen interest in the interactions between material, gesture, and space. His work often engages with dynamic textures, rhythmic surfaces, and the expressive potential of fired clay, positioning him as a compelling voice in both Japanese and global contemporary ceramic art.
