Okayasu Manami 岡安 真美

Okayasu Manami was born in Fukui Prefecture in 1984 and graduated from Kyoto Saga Art College in 2007. She held her first solo exhibition in 2009 at the prestigious Takashimaya in Kyoto, marking the beginning of a career that has since included numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Japan and internationally over the past fifteen years.

A defining feature of Okayasu’s work is the granular texture of her glazes. She regards clay and glaze as analogous to body and spirit, brought together through careful construction and ultimately fused by firing. Through this union, her works become vessels for an inner presence, shaped as much by process as by intention.

While studying the history of ceramics, Okayasu developed a deep interest in the tea ceremony and its cultural and spiritual foundations. Her research led her to the discovery that the hail-like patterns found on traditional tea kettles were derived from armor, a revelation that strengthened her desire to explore spirituality through ceramic form and surface. Drawing on historical reference while pursuing a contemporary sensibility, her work seeks to embody quiet strength, contemplation, and an unseen inner force revealed through material.

She also participated in the exhibition "IBUKI" Digital Catalog
