Nakazato Hiroko 中里浩子

Hiroko Nakazato was born in Yokohama in 1966 and earned an MA from the Kyoto City University of Arts in 1992. Since completing her studies, she has established a prolific career, holding more than twenty solo exhibitions and participating extensively in major juried and invitational exhibitions throughout Japan.

Her work has been featured in many of the country’s most respected venues, including the Nihon Kogeiten (Japan Crafts Exhibition), the International Ceramics Festival Mino, and the Asahi Contemporary Crafts Exhibition. She received an award at the 5th Mashiko Ceramics Competition in 2004, followed by further recognition at the 58th Japan Craft Exhibition and the 8th Kikuchi Biennale in 2019. In 2021, she was again awarded at the 9th Kikuchi Biennale, reaffirming her continued relevance and excellence.

Nakazato’s work is held in public collections including the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. Her practice reflects a sustained exploration of form and material, positioning her as a significant presence within contemporary Japanese ceramics.
