Kato’s work has been exhibited at major institutions and exhibitions, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; the Chunichi International Ceramics Exhibition (Chunichi Kokusai Tōgei Ten); and the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition (Asahi Tōgei Ten), as well as in private exhibitions overseas, including in New York.

His career and artistic contributions have been the subject of major publications, including Tōh Vol. 85 (1993), which is entirely dedicated to his work, as well as Quiet Clarity “RIN” (1996) and Fired with Passion: Contemporary Ceramics of Japan (2007).
