Fujimoto Hide 藤本 秀

Fujimoto Hide was born in Shigaraki in 1954 and developed a fascination with ceramics from an early age. From 1973, he spent a decade working in various potteries and industrial ceramic positions, deepening his understanding of firing techniques and glaze development. This was followed by a further decade devoted to independent firing and sculptural exploration.

In 1995, Fujimoto established his own kiln in the forests of Shigaraki, where he continues to work today. His practice is rooted in an intimate relationship with clay and fire, producing works that balance raw materiality with refined control. His work has been exhibited by many of Japan’s leading galleries and institutions, including multiple private exhibitions with Kuroda Tōen in Ginza, the Togei no Mori Museum in Shiga, and more recently in Taiwan.
