Collection: Paradox || Modern Ceramic Exhibition

Group Exhibition: Paradox  2026.03.07 - 04.13

A core fact of ceramics that is rarely articulated: the moment of firing is not only technical completion, but a point of irreversible death that enables survival.
Firing marks a radical threshold. In the kiln, clay crosses from earth to stone, from living matter to fossil. Once fired, it can never return to clay. It cannot be revived, rehydrated, or reshaped. It is chemically and ontologically transformed.
This is the paradox at the heart of the creative act:
The object must die in order to endure.
The firing extinguishes life at the microscopic level, yet grants the work a lifespan that can exceed its creator by thousands of years.
This exhibition will feature a variety of works by six contemporary ceramic artists selected by KURA MONZEN. Please come to the venue and experience the world of "Paradox" created by six artists.
